Sascha Brastoff was known for his talent and ability in many fields of art, both performing and visual. He was an American enamel on metal artist, however that was just a small part of his contribution to the arts.

He was born Samuel Brastoff (Brastofsky) in 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio. His father was Russian and his mother was Hungarian. As a child he decorated the family's dinner plates. The decorations would be washed away so that dinner could be served, likely, adding to his desire to create more.

As a teenager, he began to focus on sculpture and ballet. He had successes early on in his career with clay sculpture. At the age of 22 he moved to New York city and did window designs for Macy’s. Just one year after moving to New York City he had his first show where he featured 37 original hand sculpted terra-cotta “whimsies” that were purchased by high profile collectors.
In 1946 he started his first job at 20th century Fox Studios in California as a costume designer. During this time, he was also able to start his small decorative arts studio. His company, 'Sascha Brastoff Product's Incorporated' quickly became a success and by the late 1950s employed over 100 pottery workers.

Hollywood stars including Joan Crawford and Donna Reid where are among his customers. Some of his pieces were even featured in movies.

With the stress and losses in the business Sasha had a nervous breakdown, which resulted in him leaving the company in mid 1962. In 1965 friends convinced Sascha to produce again. He began working with new materials like
Styrofoam and resin  and produce new unique pieces until his health slowly declined in the early 1980s.
